Curbfind - Find Free Items on the Curb Near You

Welcome to Curbfind, the free community-driven map and circular economy platform connecting neighbours to share, discover, and rescue reusable curbside items before they reach landfills.

What is Curbfind?

Every week across towns and cities, thousands of perfectly usable furniture pieces, working appliances, building materials, tools, and household treasures are placed on the curb for municipal bulk garbage collection. Curbfind makes curbside treasure hunting organized, accessible, and fast. Whether you are moving out and decluttering your home or scouting for upcycling projects and vintage decor, Curbfind enables neighbours to snap a photo, post an item on the live map, and let the community claim it for free.

How Curbside Treasure Hunting Works

  1. Snap & Post an Item: Spot something sitting on the curb or put out your own unwanted items for garbage pickup. Take a quick photo, tag the location, and post an item to the community map in seconds.
  2. Explore the Live Map: Browse nearby items updated in real time by your neighbours. Filter by distance, categories, or recent drops to see what is available right around your block.
  3. Rescue & Divert: Head over to the curb, pick up your new treasure, and mark the item as claimed to keep the map accurate and save your fellow hunters a trip.

Why Curbside Reuse Matters: Environmental & Community Impact

Municipal landfills are overwhelmed with bulk items and bulky waste that still possess years of useful life. The traditional cycle of manufacturing, consuming, and discarding products generates heavy carbon emissions and squanders valuable raw materials. By participating in local curbside reuse, you directly contribute to:

  • Diverting Bulk Waste from Landfills: Solid furniture, operational electronics, and construction supplies are given a second life instead of filling local landfill cells.
  • Lowering Carbon Footprints: Reusing an existing solid wood table or metal shelf produces zero manufacturing emissions compared to buying new retail goods.
  • Saving Money & Strengthening Neighborhoods: Providing students, families, artists, and DIY hobbyists with access to free household essentials fosters mutual support and greener communities.
  • Scrap Metal Recovery: Enabling local scrap collectors and salvagers to quickly recover copper, steel, and aluminum helps keep recyclable metals in the circular production loop.

Curbside Etiquette & Safety Guidelines

To ensure a positive and safe experience for everyone in our community, all Curbfind users are encouraged to follow our core curbside etiquette:

  • Public Right-of-Way Only: Items posted on Curbfind must be placed on the public curb or boulevard next to the road. Never enter private driveways, yards, porches, or backyards without explicit homeowner permission.
  • Daylight Pickups: Plan your pickups during daylight hours whenever possible to respect neighbourhood quiet hours and improve personal visibility.
  • Respect the Curb: Take the entire item without leaving debris or scattering garbage on the lawn or sidewalk. Always park safely without blocking driveways or obstructing traffic.
  • Keep the Map Fresh: If you arrive at a curb and find that an item is already gone, tap "Not there" on the item card so the live map instantly updates for other users.
